this is an early work of mine, made shortly after moving to Los Angeles. It is one of my first explorations with material yanked from the surfboard industry. The picture is a wash of green and grey paint applied to numerous, thin layers of poured polyester resin. small renderings of waves are built up through the layers giving an actual visual depth to the subject. the waves are arranged in an approximation of actual surfing spots, popular in LA County. The painting is a map of sorts. Grey haze obfuscates many zones in the picture (made by pouring pearlescent pigment directly into the resin/paint layers), much like actual haze and smog blur the views in Southern California.
