Ocean State, 1, 2022
this is the very first Ocean State piece I made although work in the general vein dates back to 2003. the piece is made of resin that I tint and cast. my work looks unlike anyone else’s because I don’t use off the shelf resin tints like the rest. which is fine; no shade being cast. those tints tend to be super “up” and synthetic looking, which is also fine, but not really my speed with this work. these pieces are cast and then sanded for hour on end, working from grits as crude as 80 to 2000. it takes a LONG time to make these. they are imperfect, but they are also quite slick and slippery to the eye and hand, catching the light and rebuffing it all day. it never stays still.
polyester resin, oil paint, fiberglass, gel coat 22 inches in diameter
